What do I bring? (Day Tours)

Just bring the essentials:
  • A full water bottle (refill water available)
  • Hat
  • Camera
  • Comfortable footwear
  • For sunsets it is advisable to bring a jacket in the winter months
  • And of course, a sense of humour and adventure
Do you pick up from accommodation?

Yes we do. Pick up is from all accommodation locations in Winton and the free camp areas of Long Waterhole and Mistake Creek. We start pick ups 15 minutes prior to the tour start time so please be patient as we make our way around town.
What if I have already purchased a ticket to the Stampede or Dinosaur Museum?
No problem! I can adjust the price for you so that you don't pay twice for the site tour at Lark Quarry Dinosaur Stampede or the Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum. When you wish to make a booking please contact me about this so the adjustment can be made prior to you paying. Remember to bring your tickets with you on the day!
Do you cater for special diets?

Absolutely! Please make your dietary requirements known at the time of booking so that we can adequately cater for them.
Do you have a toilet on board the bus?
Our buses are not equipped with a toilet. Our longer Dinosaur Stampede tours (3/4 and full day) have a bush style camp toilet. It's basic but it is useful! 
Our sunset tour does not have toilet facilities - please use the facilities before we pick you up for this three hour tour.
Do you offer a concession price? 
​​All tours offer a Seniors rate which acts as a concession rate for pensioners and for full time high school students 15-17yo. (Child rate is for 4-14yo) ​
  • Special rates also exist for Carer's/Companion Card holders who are travelling with the person they care for. Please contact us for more information.
​The Tour prices/rates explained
​​Adults - any person 18 - 65yo                                                       
  • Seniors - 65+, pensioners, and students 15-17yo
  • Child - 4-14yo
  • Infant - 1-3 (not recommended for children under this)
  • Family - 2 Adults and 2 Children (An extra child reduced rate also exists for larger families)
Although it is not recommended, Infants who are not able to sit in a seat on their own will require a baby capsule/pod. Please bring your own and let us know so that we can arrange a time to fit this prior to the tour pick up time. 
When do I pay for my day tour/s?

Full payment is to be made at the time of booking the tour. The online booking system accepts Visa, MasterCard or Stripe accounts only. Arrangements can be made for a direct deposit for bookings at least two weeks in advance only.
Cancellation policy - DAY TOURS

​We understand that unexpected things happen, so please contact us if you have any unforeseen circumstances. Bookings are fully flexible up until 24 hours prior to the tour departure:
  • If you need to change your dates - no problems, as long as there is avilability on the new date.
  • If you are unable to get to Winton due to illness or breakdowns we will provide a full refund or change the date of your tour where we can - just let us know, we understand! 
  • If we can't get you onto another tour, or if you prefer, we will refund 100%.
  • If Red Dirt Tours cancels a tour due to weather or unforeseen circumstances then a full refund will be given or arrangements made for you to join a tour on another day.
Within 24 hours of the tour departure, we can be reasonable so we hope you can be too. On our Dinosaur Stampede Full Day or 3/4 Day Tours, we do catering numbers at 5pm. If you contact us after this time then we will have to charge you a $30 fee.

Can I bring a WHeelie walker or wheelchair?
Some of our tours involve walking over uneven terrain, which may not be suitable for wheelie walkers or wheelchairs. If you have mobility concerns, please contact us so we can assess what’s possible for your tour. 
We have limited storage space ​in vehicles. If you email us to let us know of your requirements in advance of the tour day, we may be able to assist with carrying a wheelie-walker or small portable wheel chair on shorter tours.
Just remember that each of our buses has 3 or 4 stairs to get in - their are hand rails but no lifts.

Do I Need To Do a Tour?

If you have a vehicle, you have the option in most cases. You CAN drive yourself to the Dinosaur Stampede, the Australian Age of Dinosaurs Museum and Bladensburg National Park. BUT, here are 5 reasons why you may choose to come with Red Dirt Tours instead:

1.  You can leave the car or motorhome in Winton and sit back and relax for the day. Let someone else do the driving so you can actually see the countryside.
2.  You'll hear about the local flora, fauna and history along the way. All tours have informative commentary by our experienced and personable guides.
3.  You get to ask all those questions you've been wondering as you've been travelling along the outback roads.
4.  We take you onto private property (on some tours) and places where you can't go if you drive yourself. And we know all the good beauty spots and hidden gems!
5.  Travelling on dirt roads can be taxing on your vehicle and on you, and sometimes those roads are not in very good condition. One cheeky tour group a few years ago declared a new tag line for Red Dirt Tours - "Why wreck your car when I can take mine instead!".

The choice is yours. But of course, I appreciate your support of my little tour business if you do come with us!
